The word is out! The wings are ready. All of a sudden the adult leader tent becomes very popular.

A view toward the "poorer" side of the camp. To the left is the New River, merely a few feet away.

Michael Shoemaker (foreground) finds the hot wings...hot.

We don't know what happened. About 2 PM on Saturday the sky went dark, the wind picked up with gusts at about 40 mph and the rain came. Lightning, thunder and mothball-sized hail fell for about 45 minutes. All but the adult leaders' tarp (overhead) was blown down. The brave stuck it out under here, while the less adventurous retreated to tents and cars (shame on them).

Willard Osburn holds down the side flap during the windiest part of the 45-minute storm. Temperatures plummeted from the mid-70's to the mid-40s during the storm, but warmed up a bit after the front had passed.

Rain tumbles off the surviving overhead shelter. Saturday afternoon, May 14.

This is 2:30 PM on a Saturday. Looked more like 8 PM.

Chris Hill rides out the storm in relative safety.

Neither wind nor rain nor lightning nor thunder nor anything else they can throw at us will keep Mark "Trail Mix" Corneau (aka The Magic Chef, aka The Transportation Wizard) from concocting something wonderful for dinner. Here, ken peterson displays a colorful medley that will go into Mark's green bean-potatoes-and-onions mix later.

Storm's over -- for now. Karl Peterson (l.), Ken Peterson (r. background) and John Carpenter (foreground) yuck it up.

Karl Peterson feels his chances for the "Barking Spider Award" might be good. Don't ask!

Brrrrrrr. Mark Corneau feels the chill after the cooling thunderstorm.

A man on a mission. Chris Hill smells food, no doubt.

Karl Peterson -- winner of the "I'm Too Shy to Let You Take My Picture" contest. Is that some sort of weapon in his hand? Nahhhh, can't be.

Life is good. So sayeth "The Man." All this happiness wadded up into one person -- it just isn't fair.

How high are we going to build that thing, anyway?

It's not Christmas tree, guys.

Matthew Shoemaker (standing, center) covers his ears as Brendan Mrzlak (kneeling, left) sings the "Song of Hiawatha" on his knees before the bonfire.

John Carpenter was just saying "That is the finest man who ever walked this Earth." Ken Peterson agrees, I think.... Connor Peterson and Connor Smith are seated from left to right.

(l. to r.) Travis Carpenter is puzzled (what else is new?), Chris Hill wonders why his butt is cold, Rodney Dulin is just as comfy as one can be and Karl Peterson examines a butane lighter most carefully.

Brandon Clement (r.) -- "What stinks around here?"

Geoffrey Corneau (l.) -- "Uhhhh, I dunno."

Carter Burton whittling. Don't laugh -- on Friday night that was a tree in his hands. Carter, do you have your "Totin' Chit" on you?

Just waiting for the bonfire or the rain to start again, whichever comes first. From left to right; Michael Shoemaker, Ben Austin, Brock Smith, Connor Peterson, Connor Smith, Mr. Chris Burton. Mr. Peterson appears in a half-supporting role on the right.

Where there is smoke....

Mr. Mrzlak (background) is breaking out the extra Dutch Oven to make the cobblers. Mr. Corneau returns with an additional pot and spoon.
